In the mountains of Western North Carolina, the French Broad River winds through communities still recovering from Hurricane Helene’s destruction. Homes, bridges, and gathering places were washed away—but the will to rebuild never left.

The French Broad also marked a powerful reunion for several RAFT alumni who first met on the water in 2024. Lance and Rodney, the original Nantahala pair, returned to continue their dialogue—proof that one conversation can spark a lasting connection. Brandon Rivers, Sherman Neal, Jennifer Roberts, and Gabrielle Bailey also came back, bringing new perspectives shaped by a year of reflection. Their presence reminded everyone that RAFT isn’t a one-time trip—it’s an ongoing journey toward understanding, trust, and rebuilding what connects us.
